Our sweet Rose was born on August 4, 2019 and she has been the most special and perfect addition to our family. I had an induction scheduled for August 6 but there was no need for that! I had been having on again off again contractions for a couple weeks but none of them had been the real deal. I started getting some on Aug 4 at about 4 am and didn't take them seriously. But they just kept coming and man were they painful. The contractions just kept coming and by 6:30 am they were 5-6 minutes apart and it was time to start getting to the hospital. Kev had been telling me for about a week to pack my hospital bag but of course I hadn't yet, thinking I had plenty of time. So in between contractions I got ready and packed my bag.
It was the most surreal feeling to know I was going to have a baby this way. Halle and Beau were both induced at 39 weeks, so going into labor and timing contractions was completely new to me. Kev's sister Lachelle and her daughter Eliza came over at about 7:15 to stay with Halle and Beau, and we headed to the hospital. The drive was about 15 minutes but it was a long 15 minutes and when a contraction would come I would bang my hand on the window and ceiling. Kev told me later he thought it was so funny and wished he would've filmed it, but didn't want to make me mad. haha
So we got to the hospital around 7:30, and made our way up to the 3rd floor for labor and delivery. I told the nurse that greeted us that I was having contractions five minutes apart. She asked if this was my first child and when I told her it was my third, she decided to not even check me and just sent me back to a room. After getting changed, my nurse came in and checked me and I was at a 6! I said that i wanted an epidural pronto because I knew if I waited any longer I probably wouldn't get one. They got that anesthesiologist in there quick and I got my epidural. It was sooo nice to have a short break from the contractions and to relax for a minute. It felt like only a minute because by 8:30 I was at a ten. My nurse had checked me again and said that in order to do so she would have to break my water because she could see it right there, and they paged the on call doctor.
Dr Merrill came in (not my dr) and he was great. He had lots of great dad jokes that made us laugh. I pushed 3 times and Rose was born at 9:00 am. It was so crazy, "easy", and fast! It was a very different experience for us to only have been at the hospital for an hour and a half before she was born. She was born with meconium (just like Halle) so she had to be checked out by the NICU nurses before we could do skin to skin. She was the sweetest little thing and barely made a sound, but seemed to want to nurse from the moment she came out. I just had this feeling of pure love when she was born and couldn't wait till Halle and Beau were able to meet her. We love her SO Much. Our Rose.
