Paris 2

We didn't give ourselves much time in Paris since we had already been there before, but we made sure we went to Versailles on day 2 since we'd never been there! Versailles was fascinating to me! It's almost sickening how ridiculously grand it is, and how the people were starving but the royalty was thriving and gluttonous. I'm so glad we were able to see it and take the tour! I think it would have been awful to be royalty, so much pressure as a women to have a son, the gowns were beautiful but looked so uncomfortable, and the straw on the camel's back for me was that they hardly ever bathed because they thought it was bad for you. Gross! It was fascinating to learn about King George XVI and Marie Antoinette.

The Hall of Mirrors!

After spending a couple hours on the tour we went and explored the gardens. They were extravagant and beautiful! I was feeling extra grateful for a beautiful blue sky day again. (like in London) We really lucked out on weather this trip!

We ate some lunch on the grass over there and watched people paddle their boats.

There were SO many people right here in front of the gate so I took the picture higher, but get a load of that giant gold gate! Holy cow!

After getting back from Versailles, we took the subway to Sacre Couer. Funny story, so our car opened up on both sides, and we got off on the wrong side. So we went back through the car and tried to get off on the side we wanted. Kevin made it through, but the doors started to close on me! Also important to this story is that we had only paid to have Kevin's phone work in Europe, so if separated, mine would have worked to find him again, it just would have cost a fortune. I am super proud of myself in this situation because I karate chopped that door so hard and pulled it open and jumped through to him. I was not about to be lost in Paris! It was a pretty funny situation which could have been bad.

In every big tourist destination in Paris there are these men that try and sell you souvenirs. They all sell the same things, so it gets annoying as you go to the different spots and keep having to tell them all no. Well as we were walking up to Sacre Coure, a big group of them, I would say at least 7 or 8 crowded around Kevin as he was waling in front of me, all talking to him. He had his wallet and phone totally secure in his pocket with his hand over them, so that was good. He kind of yelled at them to get away, and they did, but it really freaked me out for a second! As we were leaving about an hour later the cops were there taking control of that situation, thank goodness.

I loved being here in the evening, just hanging out on the steps with everyone around us drinking. haha. It was really nice though, just the two of us.

We walked behind the cathedral to the little shops and it was so charming! It is known for its art scene and we bought a little painting from a local artist.

I need to address the reason for me wearing the same clothes two days in a row. I didn't pack too many outfits and this just felt like this was my Paris outfit. haha It was so comfortable and it's nice to feel comfortable and cute in your outfit right? So there you have it.

Then we took the subway again and wandered over to Notre Dame. One of my favorite memories of this trip will always be wandering aimlessly around Paris, doing whatever we felt like doing.

I was awful at documenting the food we ate on this trip, but this was some delicious gelato with a macaroon on top we got as we walked to Notre Dame

Then we walked along the Sienne and back to our hotel to get ready to fly to Naples in the morning. There were SO many people along the river, in groups on blankets hanging out with their friends. Some had picnic dinners, wine, some were silently sitting together taking it all in, some were reading. I loved walking past and catching snippets of their get togethers. (all in french of course so I couldn't understand) It was one of those nights that you would read about in a fictional book about Paris when two people are falling in love. haha we loved it!

Holding the painting we bought:

We didn't go in this Louvre this go around since we went last year, but we walked past on our way home and it was very fun to see it at night. Everything in Paris is so iconic!

We ended up catching an uber from here back to our hotel because we were tired. Our uber driver was so nice. He was from a country in Africa (I can't remember which one) and was trying to practice his English on us. We enjoyed talking to us. We love Paris!
